The early 1800's mark the beginning of the transition for 14 Trim Street, from residential to commercial occupation. During this time the status of the house's tenants changed from gentlemen to lodgers who worked as labourers, servants and tradesmen, including shoemakers, cabinetmakers and 'leatherdressers'. In the mid 1850's six or more families lodged at 14 Trim Street with census information showing around 20 residents in the property.
